Aeonium canariense seeds

Krzysztof Ziarnek, Kenraiz

Accepted Scientific Name:

Aeonium canariense

Synonyms:

Sempervivum canariense

Common Names:

Canary aeonium

Plant Origin:

Aeonium canariense seeds

Appearance: Offsetting short stem rosettes, somewhat sticky leaves with dense white hairs on both surfaces. The green leaves are lanceolate to spatulate in shape.

Origins: This succulent is native to the Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Synonyms: Aeonium canariense is sometimes referred to as Sempervivum canariense.

Growth habits: Aeonium canariense is a low-growing succulent with a branching growth habit. It forms dense clusters of rosettes and can grow up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide.

Blooming habits: In the spring, Aeonium canariense produces 2.5 feet tall inflorescences (75 cm) topped with clusters of small, pale green flowers.

Light and hardiness: Aeonium canariense thrives in bright, indirect light. It prefers partial sunlight or dappled shade and can tolerate a wide range of temperatures. However, it is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.

Water: Allow the soil to dry out partially between waterings. During the active growing season in spring and summer, water the plant when the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the fall and winter months, allowing the soil to dry out more thoroughly between waterings.

Ensure the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, and adjust watering frequency based on environmental conditions and the plant’s individual needs.
